DANCE Dance is an integral part of musical theatre. We develop your competence and confidence in styles such as jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, lyrical, street jazz, pas de deux and more, focusing on firm foundations, technique, flexibility and placement throughout. From the dynamic energy of pop videos to the choreographed sequences of West End musicals, our experts and visiting professional alike will school you in many different styles and rhythms, enabling you to learn intricate steps, retain corrections, develop control, stance and posture as well as working on your sense of performance.
SINGING From musical theatre to rock, solo to ensemble, jazz to contemporary, when it comes to singing it is essential that today’s performers have a strong technical foundation on which develop. At the academy, you will study vocal placing, harmonising, the blending of head and chest voice, posture, tone, pitch and developing your diaphragm and breathing.
Through the course you will develop a broad portfolio supplemented by musical theory classes that will help you to understand the principles of music, as well as the confidence and ability to combine a convincing performance with the wider areas of dance and drama.
ACTING Acting is a cornerstone of musical theatre and our academy will develop your skills through covering both classical and modern drama, from Shakespeare to contemporary comedy.
Through performance and presentation, we never lose sight of the fact that the basics of theatre and performance have remained through time and will work with you to amplify your stage presence.
PERFORMANCE Performance is an essential facet of every discipline and is a strong focus of the academy.
Working with practising industry professionals, workshops will form a major part of your timetable coupled with accompanied performance classes in front of peers, which aim to develop your own unique style. Team work skills are also developed as a key component of performance as is the experience of live audiences, which we aim to foster as much as possible.
A minimum of three performances per year will be performed during your course with sets, costumes, lighting, sound and the musical accompaniment of a three-piece live band. A musical theatre performance will be performed in its entirety every year and the academy will host an end of year showcase where many agents and directors will be invited from theatreland. Additionally, an in-house showcase will be performed at our very own studio theatre.
